How Do I Add Ipad to Verizon Account

Verizon's high-speed Internet service allows customers to access their email through the POP3 protocol. However, one limitation of POP3 is that it does not allow multiple computers and devices to synchronize an account automatically. With the default settings, if you receive a message on your iPad and delete it from the server, you won't be able to see the same message on your computer. When setting your email account up on the iPad, configure it to leave messages on the server so you can read and delete them on your computer.

Tap the gear-shaped "Settings" icon on the iPad's home screen.

Tap the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" heading on the left side of the screen.

Tap "Add Account" under the Accounts heading near the top of the screen. A new screen titled "New Account" appears.

Tap the "POP" option at the top of the screen.

Enter your name and email address in the Name and Address fields. A Verizon email account ends in "verizon.net."

Enter an identifier such as "Verizon" in the Description field. A description helps you manage multiple email accounts on your iPad.

Complete the fields in the Incoming Mail Server section. Enter "incoming.verizon.net" in the Host Name field, and enter the section of your email address before the "@" symbol in the User Name field. For example, the username for the email address "mymail@verizon.net" is "mymail." Enter your password in the Password field.

Complete the fields in the Outgoing Mail Server section. Enter "outgoing.verizon.net" in the Host Name field, then complete the User Name and Password fields with the same information you entered in Step 7.

Tap "Save" in the upper right corner of the screen. The iPad attempts to connect to the account and fails because you need to configure additional settings. Tap "Details" and "Accept."

Return to the home screen and open the "Settings" menu again. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and tap the description you entered for your Verizon email account.

Tap the "SMTP" heading to expand it. Tap the switch next to "Use SSL" to change it to "On." Tap "Server Port" and change the value to "465."

Scroll down and tap the "Advanced" heading to expand it. Tap the "Use SSL" switch to change it to "On." Tap "Server Port" and change the value to "995."

Tap "Delete from Server" and change the value to "Never."

Tap "Done" to begin using your Verizon email account on your iPad.

Tips

  • When you synchronize an email account using the settings described here, all messages remain on Verizon's email server when you delete them with your iPad. When you set the account up on your computer, configure the email client to delete messages from the server when you delete them on your computer. If your computer and iPad are both configured to leave messages on the server, you may eventually run out of storage space and stop receiving new messages.
